Hello sorry about the lack of updates, Tropical Storm Fay has really put a damper on things. She should be on her way sometime soon. But, luckily I got some interesting news for all of you today! The hot thing this summer, other than the weather of course, seems to be side projects! White Stripes front man, Jack White is proudly talking about his side band,The Raconteurs.Green Day's current side band, Foxboro Hot Tubs also gets a brief mention.
Side projects have been proven to have as much success as the members already established other rock bands.Take Green Day's garage band for example. An album cheerfully titled, Stop Drop and Roll, was released in May and came into the charts at No. 37. Could their success be due to the fact that their line up are still the same members as Green Day? They are quoted as saying, "The only similarity between Green Day and Foxboro Hot Tubs is that we're the same band." Although The Raconteurs don't have the same members, except for Jack White who sings lead in both this band and White Stripes.Others may squirm in discussing the two bands, hoping to induce some confusion and mystery on them. White doesn't see it as a hassle.Mr.White is quoted as saying, “I think, halfway through the record, we realized, wow, this is really a band. We were all really excited to make a go of it — go out there and promote it and be a band and make more records. I don’t think there was any intention halfway through the first record that the Raconteurs was a side project. Some people would assume we were too busy, but when something good is happening, just go with it. Why not?” Of course, he hasn't forgotten about White Stripes, so don't worry fans. Although sometimes, a break from the everyday norm is always a good thing,“It’s a total change of pace from what I’d been doing for the past few years with the White Stripes.Dual songwriters and a full range of sounds. There are no rules, like we have in the White Stripes. I wouldn’t want to do something that was the same thing. This was going to be completely different. That’s what I was excited about — but mostly the collaborating on the writing.” Leaving your bandmates out of the newer projects may seem pretty hard, and perhaps spark some envy. Bad Seals' musicians were not invited to join Grinderman. Releasing their self-titled album in 2007, rumors had it in for them about Bad Seals' break up. They apparently had nothing to do with each other whatsoever. When asked about the side band, Sclavunos is quoted as saying, "Grinderman is about a certain attitude to making music, And a wilingness to play loud." You can read this article here. So whether or not side bands affect the musician's real bands, it goes to show just how much they really get their creative juices flowing, conjuring up sweet success. |

Hello everyone how are you doing today? Rolling Stone Magazine has made its Weekend Rock List: Best Producers. They are asking you the reader to choose your favorites, and they will count the votes this coming Monday.
RS decided to make a list since producers have been in the news the last couple of days. While waiting for everyone to decide, the infamous music magazine put some of their own top five together. They are as follows: - Brian Eno
- Jerry Wexler
- Rick Rubin
- Nigel Godrich
- Steve Albini
RS is honoring those behind the scenes that make the music we love to listen to happen. Brian Eno produced albums for acts such as, Coldplay, U2, and David Bryne. Producers often do not get much of the credit, but if it wasn't for them, much of the music you and I love wouldn't exist. You can read this article right here. Be sure to get all your votes in and we will have the results for you on Monday. Have a great week! |

Hello everyone, it has certainly been a sad couple of days indeed with the recent passing of comedian Bernie Mac, and musician Isaac Hayes. The world of rock and roll is having its fair share of grievances. Massive record producer, Jerry Finn past away August 12, 2008 at the age of 38. He was briefly put on life support after suffering a brain hemorrhage last month.
He is best known for producing some of our favorite albums from top bands such as, Green Day, Blink182, Offspring, AFI, and his recent project, Morrissey. Due to this tragic event, Morrissey's album will be pushed back to early February 2009. You can read this article here. There's also a quote from a close friend of Finn's,"At this time the hemorrhage has done massive damage to his body which will leave him severely disabled and in need of acute care for the rest of his life. We know Jerry wouldn't want to live like this in a vegetative state." Finn got his start in the music business by work as an engineer in the early nineties, then started flexing his production skills on punk band, Rancid's album,"...And Out Come The Wolves." His work will be severely missed in the world of music, we hope the best for his friends and family. May he Rest In Peace! |

Hello, how are you doing everyone? Here's something that is pretty cool, I think you might like it. Digtriad.com printed up some past events that happened years ago today, August 12. One of which mention Green Day's infamous WoodStock event, or as some fans like to call it, MudStock. It is quoted as, " In 1994, Woodstock '94 was held in Saugerties, New York. About 350,000 people saw the show, which included mudfights during Green Day's and Nine Inch Nails' sets and the Red Hot Chili Peppers dressed as human light bulbs."
Whether you are a fan or not,I don't think anyone is going to forget this hilarious, but equally as dangerous event. We definately wont! Other memorable events that were mentioned include: - In 1966, John Lennon apologized at a news conference for his remark that The Beatles were more popular than Jesus. That same day, The Beatles started their last North American tour, in Chicago.
- In 1967, Fleetwood Mac made its first appearance, at the London National Jazz and Blues Festival.
- In 1982, actor Henry Fonda died at the age of 77.
- In 1988, the controversial movie "The Last Temptation of Christ" opened in nine cities, despite objections by some Christians that the film was sacrilegious in its treatment of Jesus.
- In 1992, avant-garde composer John Cage died in New York at age 79.
- In 1993, the Red Hot Chili Peppers replaced guitarist Arik Marshall with Jesse Tobias, who was replaced by Dave Navarro three months later.
Wow, who knew one day could hold so many events at once? This is certainly super cool news, you can read it here. You learn something everyday! |
